The embrace of unpredictable shifts
& my unshakeable trust
Oceans, mountains, and whole continents formed by the unpredictable shifts that collide and divide beneath our feet. Fault lines quivering - waiting for that moment when the crust of the earth shifts just enough for it all to change. Destruction and construction all happening at once, & all out of our control. For many years I built dams within myself to block the rivers from flowing. I was afraid what they might find once they reached the sea. Yet, eventually the river’s force could not be contained as they busted through the dams. Drowning me in a reality I could not contain. Over the years I have had to embrace my human limitations the hard way. I had to find my strength. Because what I learned is that outside the construct of “natural disaster” is the opportunity for evolution. The opportunity to tap into a power that has always lived beneath the surface of my earthly body. I have experienced firsthand just how far I can stretch myself into the formation of something more than who I once was…. More than I thought I could ever be. The reformation of a past in decay as I stretch myself into the future with an unshakeable trust. & with this new wisdom, I welcome the unpredictable. For I see beauty in the creation that exists on the other side - Oceans, mountains, and whole continents in persistent destruction and construction. A whole new world within myself to explore. —— On a music video shoot back in May, I met Niko. While I was production support, he was the on-set hairstylist who I instantly connected with upon discovering our mutual Native roots. In desperation for some inspiration, I asked him how he would cut and style my hair. Next thing I know, I’m at Matthew’s studio getting a haircut from Niko that quickly evolved into a full blown photoshoot. There is so much more to this experience that I will share - including an episode of a new video series that I will be premiering soon ;) But for now, it’s about damn time I share with the world the transformation Niko gave me and the beauty Matthew brought out of me in this photo set. I have evolved, and I am forever in gratitude for the people who show up and facilitate my constant transformation along this wild journey I am on. 🌹
